However, educational inequality in the country continues to be an intractable structural problem rooted in socio-economic disparities, digital divides and systemic exclusion based on caste, gender and geography. The urgency of digitalization in education especially after COVID-19 has accentuated opportunities, and inequities. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is something that has a transformational power which can address advanced availability, individualized learner experience and educational results. While in the South Asia region it is still not applied enough within equity-focused frameworks.
The paper explores how AI can be leveraged to bridge the digital divide and reduce educational inequities in India. Using a conceptual-policy analytical framework, the study combines theoretical arguments, national education policies and new practices in AI-supported learning. It recognizes structural challenges such as gaps in infrastructure, algorithmic discrimination and social-and-cultural exclusion, while also recognizing the advantage of AI to support adaptive learning and large-scale development of education delivery.
The research offers an AI-Driven Inclusive Education Model that combines infrastructure, pedagogy, equity guards, and governance mechanisms. The results highlight that AI, when ethically and inclusively deployed, is on track to provide meaningful contributions toward realising Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education). The paper ends with policy recommendations for equitable AI integration and a plea for localized, culturally responsive educational technologies in India and South Asia.
